More than 100 Festivals with Pawpaws, the World’s Biggest Chicken Dance, Backwoods, Pork and more!
It’s a super big festival weekend, Ohio…
…again!
Just take a look at the map and see how covered the state it with Red Ohio Festival City Pins, keeping in mind that many cities have more than one festival going on.
This week, because there are so many, I’m going to give you two lists of festivals – most of which I’ve already attended…
First, here are some of the big/popular festivals I know about this weekend:
… the Ohio Pawpaw Festival (Review) in Albany: did you know that pawpaws are the state fruit of Ohio?
… Zinzinnati Oktoberfest (Review) in Cincinnati: along with having the World’s Biggest Chicken Dance, they have Weiner Dog Races and plenty of goetta to accompany those beers
… Backwoods Fest (Review) in Thornville: plenty of shopping, good eats and music entertainment in the woods. Try to get there early.
… Preble County Pork Festival (Review) in Eaton: the all-you-can-eat breakfast and pork chop dinner are pretty big hits and there are also many craft vendors for some shopping.
… Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival (Review) in Cleveland: a great arts festival in Lincoln Square.
… Flat Rock Creek Fall Festival (Review) in Paulding: tons of vendors (craft, flea market, etc.), great entertainment and food prepared by local organizations.
… Tiffin Seneca Heritage Festival (Review) in Tiffin: two festivals in one. There’s a modern festival downtown and then a historic festival at Rotary Park
Then there are festivals this weekend that I found particularly interesting:
… St. Augustine Turtle Fest (Review) in Napoleon: a smaller festival that involves turtle racing.
… Ohio Fish and Shrimp Festival (Review) in Urbana: this takes place at the Freshwater Farms of Ohio where the fish and shrimp from the farm is pretty delicious (there are other food vendors as well). The music is also spectacular.
… FireFish Festival (Review) in Lorain: this downtown festival gives you unique art installations, music, food and fire. A fish sculpture is lit at the end of the festival and, this year, it will be a permanent steel structure with propane-based pyrotechnics for a more environmentally friendly fish.
… Cleveland Armenian Festival in Richmond Heights: set at St. Gregory of Narek, there are church tours, Armenian food and pastries, entertainment and more.
… MustardFEST in Springfield: this revolves around Woeber’s Mustard with mustard tastings, hot dog carts, weiner dog races, and a Spicy Mustard Eating Contest.
… Community Day and Car Show at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Oak Harbor: Um….hello? It’s at a Nuclear Power Station! You have to go!
This is only a few more than 10 of the festivals this weekend, which means you have a good 90+ more to search through (not to mention the 20+ fairs and shows)
Depending on your weekend plans, I would check out the map and see what’s around you, crossing checking the cities with the festival listing (a city can have more than one festival).
OR, if miles mean nothing to you, why not go through the list and see what sounds appealing. Then you can google-map it to see how far away it is and maybe find some other festivals near that main/anchor fest.
OR still…read some of my reviews and see what sounds cool. There are many more of them listed below.
It’s going to be great weather for festivals regardless so be sure to go out and do something with your friends or family. But, if they can’t go out, don’t let them hold you back. Just go on your own.
