This post documents my experience on September 21, 2013, when the festival was called the Lions Club Bean Festival.
When advertising is scarce and social media isn’t utilized, it’s difficult to know if a festival is really going on as planned…
…as was the case with the Bean Festival in the village of Jamestown.
But I’m glad I drove there to find out…
…because they had a big car show…
…rides…

…games…
…a raffle…
…a stage…
…residents who asked to have their pictures taken…
…and competitions that included the wheelchair races (each team was timed).

Gift vendors sold trinkets, crafts…
…and garage sale items down the street…
…while other booths offered dog services…
…political info…

…bake sales to raise funds (Liberty/Greenview Music)…
…free water (Jamestown Church of Christ)…
…and tons of free clothing (Grape Grove Church of Christ)

But I was most impressed by the selection of food…
…from homemade noodles (Granny Franers)…
…to apple dumpings (8th Masonic Dist)…
…and there was one food truck I was a bit hesitant to approach.
But it was here that I decided to eat…
…where the Lions were serving up different festival-themed dishes.
With choices that included ham and beans, three bean casserole and mexican beans, I had no idea which to select…
…so a volunteer was sweet enough to show me what each looked like (left to right – 3 bean, ham and bean, mexican)…
…and I went with the 3-bean (and corn bread).
With plenty of bacon pieces, meat chunks and brown sugar sweetness…
…I felt it was the place where si mangia bene (beh-neh)…
…or was that pronounced “bean?”
