This post documents my experience on September 21, 2013.
In the village of Fort Loramie…
…the German flag waved with the American…
…as the crest reminded passers-by of a time when the village was called “Berlin”…
…thanks to the German immigrants who came to work on the canal way back when (to read about the meaning of the crest, click on the above pic).
But when I saw the village’s true conversation piece…
…a giant Leinenkugel Adirondack chair…
…I knew they needed a festival to break that puppy in!
German Heritage Days primarily took place in this park…
…inside a big Germanic tent…
…with a stage for music…
…a long counter for beer…
…and a food station…
…that served dishes like stuffed cabbage…
…German potato salad (which looked like soup to me)…
…and these apple dumplings spinning in the back.
I decided to snack on some Reuben bites…
…before continuing on and checking out the Wilderness Trail Museum…

…with its area info…

…and a car show going on along the park.
Since there wasn’t that much else to do, I burned off the bites with a walk around town…
…admiring St. Michael’s from a distance (I should have walked to it)…
…and secretly wishing I had a giant Adirondack chair all my own!
