Labor Day Weekend celebrated with the Ohio Renaissance, the Fair at New Boston, Melons, Sweet Corn and the 4 P’s.
Who knew this weekend would get here so quickly? The kids are back in school, the summer as ending and, ironically, the festivals are going to pick up even more throughout September and into October.
September is an awesome festival month with so much to offer and Labor Day Weekend is a big part of that. This weekend, there are many Ohio classic festivals going on, like the Ohio Renaissance Festival (Review) in Waynesville, the Fair at New Boston (Review) in Springfield, the Milan Melon Festival (Review), the Columbus Greek Festival (Review), the Cleveland Oktoberfest (Review) in Berea, the Fort Rowdy Gathering (Review) in Covington, and the Nelsonville Music Festival to name only a few.
Just going through the list, I can see a bunch of festivals that I would recommend, like the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival (Review) with all it rides, entertainment, great food and vendors (just a big fest!) or the West Jefferson Ox Roast Festival (Review) for a delicious roast ox sandwich served on Labor Day. And who could forget a festival called the Perch, Peach, Pierogi and Polka Festival (Review) in Port Clinton? This is the festival I referred to in the title as the 4 P’s. Its not a huge festival but it’s tightly run by the Knights of Columbus and the food is delicious.
Just a lot to choose from!
Let’s take a closer look at what’s going on in each part of the state:
Northwest Ohio:
Some festivals to consider include the Perch, Peach, Pierogi and Polka Festival in Port Clinton, the Milan Melon Festival, the Russia Homecoming Festival, and the West Liberty Labor Day Festival.
Northeast Ohio:
The Cleveland Oktoberfest is going on at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds for 2 weekends. There are also the Hungarian Festival (Review) in Parma, the Labor Day BBQ and Music Festival in Barberton, Oddmall Uncensored in Beach City, the Peninsula Flea, the Summer Sunset Blast in Stow and the Toronto Ohio Art Festival.
Central Ohio:
Many festivals around Columbus this weekend, including the Ohio Cup Vintage Base Ball Festival (Review), the Columbus Caribbean Festival, the Columbus Greek Festival, the Obetz Zucchinifest (Review), the Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival (Review), the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival, and the West Jefferson Ox Roast Festival.
Southwest Ohio:
This weekend, two festivals start up which will both run for many weekends to come: the Ohio Renaissance Festival in Waynesville and Terror Town in Williamsburg. And there is also Holiday at Home in Kettering, the Liberty Home Oktoberfest in Hamilton, and the Dayton Reggae Festival.
Southeast Ohio:
This weekend, there’s the Nelsonville Music Festival, the Old Settlers Reunion in Jacksonville, Portsmouth River Days and some county fairs.

Please go through the list carefully and be sure to use the map. I know many of you will be staying close to home this weekend, but look and see if there’s a festival worth visiting for a short daytrip on one of the days with no plans. And read my review if there is one.
