Welcome back, Festival Fans.
I don’t know how you do it, Ohio, but there is yet another weekend of 80+ festivals (over 100+ events if you include the county fairs and shows).
Oktoberfests are starting to pick up now (check out the 2024 Oktoberfest and German Festival Guide), plus all sorts of Summer Festivals, River/Paddle Festivals, Music Festivals, Church Festivals and so much more.
Some interesting festivals to note this weekend include…
…the Feast of the Assumption (Review) in Cleveland’s Little Italy.
This festival gets pretty crowded and it’s fun to watch people in white eating saucy things and drinking red wine while standing in a small space on the street. It’s also fun to be one of those people eating saucy things and drinking red wine while standing in a small space on the street (local businesses do offer seating for paying customers).
There are games, rides and great music.
…the Brier Hill Italian Fest (Review) in Youngstown’s Little Italy is a fun neighborhood festival. Like the Feast of the Assumption, there’s a great assortment of delicious food and great music. This is also the festival to eat such foods as pepper and egg, the local pizza consisting of green pepper and parmesan and the braciola sandwich (don’t forget to add some hot peppers).
So good!
…Sunbury Sizzle and Sounds (Review) is a great festival with vendors, rides, music and more. It has really grown over the years and a lot is likely due to support given by the owner of the Giant Lemonade Cup…
…so be sure you get a cup of lemonade as a thank you.
…the Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival (Review) is a big festival with a LOT of vendors, food, and activities.
Be sure to head to the Lions Club booth for some corn dipped in butter, corn fritters and chicken (seen above).
…the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival (Review) is a classic Ohio festival with rides, music and plenty of brats (not to mention Polish and Italian sausages at times).
Along with traditional brat sandwiches, I’ve had brat casserole (with noodles) and a pitawurst with minced brat, kraut and mayo, which was heavenly.
…the Halupki Festival (Review) is a church festival named after cabbage rolls, but there are also Kielbasa, pierogi, and special pizzas (ie cabbage and potato). Be sure to be there by the time the ala carte food starts (2 pm) because that’s when there will be lines formed and limited food.
You don’t want to miss out.
…St. Mary Romanian Festival (Review) in Cleveland. This is the oldest Romanian parish in the country and there is some delicious food to be enjoyed, including the mititei sausages and mamaliga (polenta and cheese).
…and the Cleveland Area Pagan Days (Review) in Bedford offers cool vendors, workshops, entertainment, food and more.
It’s a fun festival and very interesting so come check it out.
