Pride, Strawberries, the Old West End, Music, Church Festivals and a Big Basket.
Like I said last week, Festival Fans, there are MANY more festivals this weekend!
There are more than 60 this week with many along the north coast, along I-75 and I-77 and many scattered like a climbing staircase that goes from Cincinnati up to Steubenville and Youngstown (check out the map and see if you agree.
First thing I should point out is that June is Pride Month and Ohio has many more Pride Festivals than it did 10 years ago or so. I used to remember there being Pride Fests in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and maybe a few other cities, but now you can find many more celebrations throughout the state And not only celebrations – but festivals – with entertainment, food and vendors! This weekend alone, for example, there are Pride Festivals in Cleveland, Bellefontaine, Findlay, Dayton, Hillsboro, Coshocton, and Hamilton.
June is also a Strawberry Month in Ohio and this weekend is reflecting that as well with some very well-known Strawberry Festivals in Troy (Review) and Newark, while more Strawberry Festivals can be found in Parma Heights and Martins Ferry. If you’ve never been to the Troy Strawberry Festival, you will be delighted at the amount of strawberry delicacies. You should also try the strawberry donuts, which taste a little bit like Frankenberry Cereal to me.
Here’s what they look like.
If you like Church Festivals, they are really starting up this weekend all over the state: Willowick, Canton, Lyndhurst, Cincinnati, Oak Harbor and Johnstown. Plus there are Wine Festivals in Columbus and Columbiana and Beer Festivals in Columbus, Cincinnati and Chillicothe and a Ribfest in Wooster.
For those looking for something a little different, you can check out America’s Basket Festival in Dresden where you can also see the world’s largest basket; party at Toledo’s Old West End Festival (Review) where you could tour Victorian and Edwardian homes while partaking in all sorts of festival fun; stop and smell the Peonies at the Van Wert Peony Festival; and head to Bowling Green’s Eberly Avenue (west of downtown) for their third annual Porchfest.
And, honestly, I still haven’t covered everything that’s going on.
There are also Art Festivals, Cultural Festivals, Spring Festivals, MANY Music Festivals, and still MORE!
