Taranta Padova Review – Padova, Italy – June 28, 2014

AUTHOR’S NOTE: During a recent trip to Northeastern Italy, I documented a few festivals for your entertainment.

This is the third.  Enjoy!

********************

Many of you may already be familiar with the Tarantella, a folk dance once used to sweat the poison from the bite of a tarantula wolf spider.  But in this family of dances, there are even more dances, such as the Pizzica, originally from the Salento Peninsula in the region of Apuglia…

…which is what was celebrated at the music festival Taranta Padova.

Consisting of a large stage and plenty of fans…

…the lively music incorporated violins, tambourines (of course), dancers…

…and even fire!

Meanwhile, festival goers could enjoy plenty of southern food…

…from orecchiette to fried fish…

…and a fantastic collection of candies, nuts…

…candy apples…

…and Sicilian cassatelle.

Fortunately, the only tarantulas found were in the decor.
