A super long weekend that runs until Tuesday, July 4th!
Since July 4th lands on a Tuesday this year, the festivals are not stopping this weekend. They extend to Tuesday and, right when you think the celebrations will end, the following weekend’s festivals pick right up and give you even more celebrations.
Fortunately, I’ll be giving you a new post next week for next weekend’s festival.
So let’s talk about what’s coming up these next few days.
As you can guess, there are all sorts of Independence Day Festivals going on with tons of fireworks, music, food, and more. Some are one-day city festivals and others, like Ashville’s 4th of July Celebration and Akron’s Rib, White and Blue, are multi-day celebrations, usually offering a little bit more.
One unique 4th of July experience is the Doo Dah Parade (Review) in Columbus. This zany, wacky festival is fun, silly and likely to bring a chuckle or two. Anyone can participate in the parade (check out the website to learn how), but it’s much more fun for me to watch. There is a festival associated with the parade as well.
Speaking of which, I should mention here that the 4th of July festivals I list should have food, vendors and entertainment. There are many, many more community fireworks shows going on throughout Ohio this upcoming weekend that I do not list simply because they are not considered festivals (they don’t have food, entertainment, vendors). But, if you know of a show not listed that has these festival elements, let me know and I will happily add it.
While the majority of festivals this weekend are related to Independence Day, there are some other types of festival offerings.
There’s a Pottery Festival in East Liverpool, an Antique Festival (Review) in Loudonville, a PowWow in Hannibal and a Hot Dog Day Festival in Niles. There’s also a Pickle Run Festival in Galion, Old Fashioned Farmers Days in Van Wert, the Mesopotamia Ox Roast and and the Heritage Festival in Kent.
As always, look to the list, check out the reviews and definitely go over the map, as there may be festivals closer to you than you think.
