Lakeside-Marblehead Lighthouse Festival – Marblehead, Ohio – My Experience

2023 DATE: October 14, 2023

This post documents my experience on October 12, 2013.

Every so often, like a ship drifting in a foggy harbor, I miss some festival attractions that merit a bit of attention.

Such was the case at this year’s Lighthouse Festival, where I missed such things as…

…live entertainment…

…kids’ games…

…and a Civil War encampment.

The main reason for this was because the festival took place at various locations both inside Lakeside (a historic community begun my Methodist preachers in 1873) and along the entire peninsula of Marblehead.

Sure, neither area is huge, but I don’t remember seeing road signs indicating where everything was along the peninsula nor did I ever see a map passed around at the festival (or online) with all the hotspots.

If there was such a map, I apologize.  But if there wasn’t, please have one for future festivals.

It would be helpful.

Fortunately, a few places did have signs and indications…

…like the St. Mary’s Fall Craft Festival.

And although the lighthouse lacked a big sign telling me when to turn…

…it was right next door to the church, so festival goers could find it.

The easiest festival hotspot was right in Lakeside…

…with its colorful window-filled school…

…adorable houses…

…golf carts…

…golf carts…

…and more golf carts.

And on this beautiful day, the town was also filled with crafts…

…lining the lawns with accessories and jewelry…

…or inside buildings…

…where vendors sold…

…ornaments…

…trees…

…American Girl outfits…

…and lighthouse related woodwork for the lake-lovers.

There was even some Toledo Lighthouse merchandise for those wishing to help it out.

And for those wanting to stay and eat in Lakeside…

…there were snacks available at various booths…

…as well as meals (bean soup/sandwiches) at the nearby churches.

Unfortunately, the lines were a bit too long…

…so we decided to head into downtown Marblehead…

…where we shared a lobster bisque…

…and each got a tasty perch sandwich.
