The Geauga County Maple Festival, Ramps and more!
Festivals have begun to pick up in Ohio with a festival favorite going on this weekend: The Geauga County Maple Festival in Chardon. Along with its offerings of maple products, live musical performances and interesting competitions (ie bathtub races), the Maple Festival offers something very special: Rides.
At first, this may not seem special as many festivals in Ohio offers rides. But the Geauga County Maple Festival offers rides earlier in the year than any other Ohio festival. I mean, it IS April and you won’t likely see many rides at festivals in this state until Memorial Day Weekend and later.
Other festival offerings this weekend include more maple syrup festivals, as well as the Pike County Dogwood Festival in Piketon, a few Earth Day Festivals and a modified version of Ramp Up Peninsula. If you’re not familiar with garlicky ramps, you should stop in Peninsula over these next few weekends and pick up some ramp products which include breads, sauces and harvested ramps to use on your own. Of course, if you know where to go (and how to) forage wild ramps, there is that option. Just be sure not to take too many ramps and please don’t take the bulbs and roots. You want them to be able to grow back for years to come.

As an FYI, I want you to know that I have updated the May festivals on the Ohio Festival Guide (https://ohiofestivals.net/ohio-festivals/). If it didn’t look like the festival was going to happen (festivals like the popular Testicle Festival in Tiro), I just took it out of the list. So, in short, all the May festivals currently listed have been confirmed.
Soon, I’ll also start looking at tentative festivals for September and October. This process never ends.
