Strongsville Homecoming Festival – Strongsville, Ohio

The Strongsville Homecoming Festival is a small festival mostly devoted to rides and games. There are a few food vendors and some entertainment, but it could use a lot more local flavor.

This post documents my experience on July 21, 2012.

Under Strongsville’s water tower where Ziggy creator Tom Wilson was hoisted up to paint (and sign) his creation…

…the Homecoming Festival took place.

It was located at the corner of the busy Pearl and Royalton intersection…

…making parking an absolute nightmare.

If it helps for future festivals, I parked just east of the location (on Royalton) where there’s the plaza with the TGI Friday’s. I found plenty of parking there and no signs that indicated towing or the like…

…just please remember that I’m not telling you to do this…

…I’m only telling you what did. :-)

Unlike nearby Columbia Station’s Homecoming Festival, where I felt I got a feel for the community through the various organizations and booths present….

…the Strongsville Homecoming Festival set itself up as an amusement park.

Sure, there were some interesting festival food vendors…

…and even Strongsville’s own Country Parlor Ice Cream.

There was also a tent with local entertainment…

…that included presentations by International Karate.

But I felt Strongsville could have added a lot more through local gift vendors, community organizations or even a high school boosters booth.

Maybe even Ziggy!

That’s why, as I walked through the grounds…

…passed the multitude of rides going for $17-all-day…

…the various games (both put on by Cincinnati’s Kissel Bros.)…

…and the officers maintaining order from the gazebo…

…I wished I was kid again…,

…because that may have been the only way I would have enjoyed this festival.
