This post documents my experience on July 21, 2012.
Founded in 1811, Lodi (low-die) is the oldest settlement in Medina County.
Originally, the village was called Harrisville, named after the founders, but was later given the name of a local Native American chief in order to prevent confusion with another Ohio town.
There are two more things I know about Lodi…
- It has an outlet mall.
- And, of course…
…there’s a festival.
I actually had a bit of trouble finding the Sweet Corn Festival in such a small town as Lodi. The main website only directed me to downtown, so I assumed it was there.
Instead, the festival took place in a field south of town on OH-83, which I learned only by stopping inside of a pizza restaurant and asking (Thanks, D’Antonio’s!) .
Once I arrived, I noticed some typical attractions…
…like a dunk tank…
…games…
…and quite a bit of rides!
But as I went deeper…
…there was a cool United Way booth for donating school supplies…
…and some interesting vendors, including Tupperware…
…cowboy hats…
…and Zippo’s galore…
…which may have even been used to light this corn cob pipe!
But there was more corn stuff than just corn cob pipes…
…there was cornhole…
…corn dogs…
…and popcorn.
And, of course…
…along with vendors that sold cheese, gyros…
…and even homemade pierogies…
…there was the sweet corn booth…
…where ears ($1.25 ea) were picked…
…dipped into melted butter…
…and served.
I took my ear….

…walked passed the plethora of seating available…
…and ate it near the stage so that I could enjoy the music (663).
