AUTHOR’S NOTE: During a recent trip to Northeastern Italy, I documented a few festivals for your entertainment.

In the small town of Gazzo (province of Padua)…
Nel piccolo paese di Gazzo (provincia di Padova)…
…there was, of course, a festival…
…c’era, ovviamente, una sagra…
…where we followed other festival goers to this tent…
…dove abbiamo seguito la gente a questa tenda…
…filled out an order sheet…
…per compilare un modulo…
…got in line to pay…
…pagare per il nostro ordine…
…and then went to the appropriate counters…
…e trovare i banchi…
…where you could pick up your drinks…

…desserts…

…and food.
…e il cibo.
We waited patiently for our food order as the other festival goers ate heartily…
Mentre stavano mangiando gli altri, abbiamo aspettato per il nostro cibo…
…and, once our number popped up on the screen…
…e, al momento il nostro numero e’ stato chiamato…
…we went to nab our french fries…
…siamo andati a prendere le patate fritte…
…cheese with grilled polenta…
…il formaggio con la polenta…
…and, of course, our fried frogs.
...e le nostre rane fritte.
Yes, at the Sagra delle Rane, or Frog Festival…
Sì, alla Sagra delle Rane…
…fried frogs were a specialty item here…
…si mangiavano le rane fritte…
…and they were fried just enough to eat all of them, including the bones.
…ed erano preparate in un modo per mangiare tutto, le ossa incluse.
And, although I didn’t particularly like them enough to eat all of them (tasted like swamp water to me)…
E, anche se non mi sono piaciute abbastanza da mangiare tutto (avevano il gusto dell’ acqua dove abitavano prima) …
…I did find the frog risotto to be pretty tasty with its chicken-like flavor.

After dinner, we went outside to check out the charity raffle booth…

…and the other vendors present.

As the stage and dance floor were getting prepped…

…for the night’s entertainment…

…the festival candy and treat booths filled kids with sugar…

…which they burned off elsewhere…
...bruciando le calorie…
…via games…
…tramite giochi…
…inflatables…
…gonfiabili…
…kiddie trains…
…un trenino…
…and rides found throughout the grounds.
…e divertimenti.
Instead of candy, we decided to share a frittella (elephant ear) for dessert…
Invece di questi dolci, abbiamo preso una frittella…
…and I would say I enjoyed it more than the frog.
…e direi che mi è piaciuto più che le rane.
