2023 DATE: June 23-25, 2023
This post documents my experience on June 24, 2017.
It was a beautiful day at Carillon Park…
…and the Wright brothers, along with many others…
…were here for a Rail Festival.
Inside the first building were two large train displays…
…with all sorts of detail…
…suitcase model trains…
…guitar case model trains…
…and various historical and railroad-related associations (Greene County/NMRA).
Outside, the majority of vendors waited for festival goers under a large tent…
…selling everything from model train cars…
…wooden railway sets…
…railroad matchbooks…
…and various other train-related items.
But there were still other vendors scattered among the park grounds…
…along with more train model displays…
…a nice selection of food vendors (Nanette’s/Hamburger Wagon)…
…and the park’s many historic buildings to explore…
…some of which even held…
…even more fascinating train displays.
A building way in the back of the park…
…offered still more vendors…
…model train displays…
…and several train cars…
…that festival goers could board.
But if a stationary train car wasn’t enough…
…you could follow the signs to this line…
…and wait to board one of the miniature trains…
…for a long leisurely ride (about 10 minutes!).
There was another not-as-exciting train, but I feel that the wait time was exceptionally less.
