Northwest Ohio Woodland & Wildlife Family Festival – Bowling Green, Ohio – My Experience

This post documents my experience on May 17, 2014.

Just off of Route 6 near Bowling Green, you can find the Wood County Historical Center and Museum…

…where history is preserved…

…among antiques…

…models…

…and trophies and more*.

And since they hosted this year’s Northwest Ohio Woodland & Wildlife Family Festival (an annual event that rotates among several counties)…

…they were also able to utilize their land and property as well…

…to both transport festival goers into the past…

…where demonstrations in seat weaving (Seatweavers’ Guild) and soap making (Abundance Soaps) took place…

…as well as to teach them about more present issues…

…in regards to food and culture

…and the conservation of soil and water (Lucas/Rain Garden).

Activities and informative booths were spread all around the grounds…

…helping festival goers determine a tree’s age (Division of Forestry)…

…understand the benefits of worms in relation to compost (Lucas Soil and Water Conservation)…

…recognize both the delicious and poisonous mushrooms…

…get a jump start on their garden (Master Gardener)…

…or just give them an up close encounter…

…with some incredible adult birds…

…and plenty of adorable chicks.

For shopping-friendly visitors, booths sold honey, plants…

…walking sticks and archery-related items…

…while food vendors offered pizza (Pagliai’s)…

…kettle corn and ice cream.

I ended the fest happily with a cream stick from Stimmel’s Market.

* = I’ve decided not to post the more famous museum exhibit.  If can’t put your finger on what I’m talking about, you should Google it (and realize that I’m good at puns).
