This post documents my experience on September 6, 2026.
I arrived at the historic Lunken Airport for Lunken Airport Days.
Just around the corner of the airport was a food court area…
…with offerings of sandwiches, brats, dogs…

…donuts and ice cream…
…and I followed the passage to a car show…
…which led me to admire the airport itself.
As I headed to the gates to the field…

…I noticed some vendors selling educational war maps and hand carved wooden toys…
…but most booths were hosted by special groups…
…raising money to send fly veterans to Washington, DC…
…letting guests know about the Civil Air Patrol…
…spreading the word about the Tri-State Warbird Museum…
…and sharing their story of how the B-29 Doc was completely restored…
…with available merch.
The B-29 was one of the main attractions…

…but there were plenty of other planes to walk up to…

…get a closer look…

…and admire as well.
And while there was the possibility to schedule a ride in the B-29 (as well as a P-51 Mustang)…
…guests could take an alternative voyage in a simulated version…
…or use the power of imagination as planes headed to the runway…
…flew overhead…
…and left their colors in the sky.
