Festival of Sail – Sandusky, Ohio – My Experience

AUTHOR’S NOTE: The Festival of Sail takes place at various cities/states. While this experience was in Sandusky, Ohio, similar offerings may be at other locations.

This post documents my experience on July 13, 2018.

Just down W. Shoreline Drive at Jackson Pier…

…Sandusky was celebrating their Bicentennial through Festival of Sail.

While some food and drink could be found outside the gated festival area (Bavarian Wagon/Great Lakes Brewing Co.)…

…the musical entertainment was there to pull you in…

…so that, with an admission, you could pass these gates…

…and get up close with the world’s largest rubber duck for a selfie or two (Mama Duck).

General admission gave you access to the festival grounds…

…where there were more food vendors…

…selling snacks (left –Twisted Willy’s)…

…meals(left – The Melted Cheese)…

…beer options (Great Lakes)…

…and desserts (Sweet Spot)…

…a much bigger stage for more musical entertainment…

…and a collection of Tall Ships that you could get up close to and admire (US Brig Niagara/Denis Sullivan).

For a few dollars more, you could also board the ships…

…and tour the ships with the aid of arrows and roped passageways…

…learn about the ships through conversation with the ships’ crews…

…ring a bell for a suggested fee…

…or just lounge about as if the ship was all yours (Schooner Madeline).

And, for an even higher admission, you could schedule a tour (Lettie G. Howard)…

…where the ship left the dock…

…and you were off to enjoy the lake with other lake lovers.

But, if land was more your style…

…you could lounge or play games in the grassy area…

…express yourself via henna or face painting…

…learn more about the lake and community around you (Lake Erie Foundation/City of Sandusky Recreation)…

…or go shopping among vendors for maps (Uncharted Mapping)…

…jewelry…

…fitness apparel…

…tall ship memorabilia (Schooner Madeline)…

…miniature cannons…

…and plenty of cute rubber duck-related gifts.

And there was an official duck booth (in case you were wondering)…

…because Mama Duck was just simply adorable.
