This post documents my experience on October 30, 2010.

When I fell upon the festivities at Burnham Orchards in Berlin Heights, it was more-or-less by mistake.
The weekend before, I was just stopping by for some produce when I noticed all these people crossing Route 113 and heading toward the orchard. A woman was singing to a small audience and things looked pretty lively.
But since I couldn’t stay long on that day, I decided to return this weekend…

Since I only found two food vendors (one already closed up)…

…and this vendor selling Glow Sticks and other Halloween things…
…I regretted not staying the weekend before.
There were still some fun activities for kids to take part in…

…but as you can see…

…they definitely favored the younger kids…

…probably so that their parents could have some time to put pumpkins in their cart.
Along with some common farm festival activities…

…like water pump racing and scarecrow making…

…they did have this cool game where three balls hovered in the air and you tried to knock them off the air stream.

Here’s that hovering ball – in case you couldn’t see it.
I actually wanted to try out the game, but I thought I would look weird playing a kid’s game, so I eventually retreated…

..and hung out with the peacocks, golden pheasants…
…ducks, geese and turkeys.
This was the only part of the festival that appealed to all age groups.
Well, this and the corn maze advertised in the flier.
And that’s an interesting point because, as I slowly walked out of the festival grounds…

…finding myself between the exit and this hayride line…
…it didn’t occur to me that I hadn’t seen the corn maze.
Perhaps I overlooked the sign or path that pointed to those 200,000 corn stalks advertised in the flier. Or perhaps I should have gotten aboard the hayride, which would possibly lead me there.
But still I ask myself, for a maze that big, how it possible that I missed it entirely?

Perhaps I just got distracted.
