This post documents my experience on August 27, 2011.
Deep in the land of the Big Walnut Golden Eagles…

…two neighboring township festivals celebrated together…
…connected only by a free trolley service.
This posting is dedicated to the Galena Summerfest…
As I took the free trolley from Sunbury to Galena, I was happy to see that Galena also offered some interesting activities for kids.
But, unlike Sunbury who placed games and inflatables in the midst of their festival on the square, Galena’s children’s area was a five minute walk from the main festival entrance…
…where they placed inflatables…
…an impressive helicopter…

…and a cool kid-friendly command center…
…with a not-so-kid-friendly fire department mascot that made me worry a bit.
When I entered the main festival entrance…
…I noticed an immediate difference to Sunbury’s festival.
Galena’s booths were ordered in rows along the streets…
…and many of them were occupied by artists…
…selling glass products…
…pottery (Tulane Road Potter)…

…and sculptures of recycled materials (StangMont Design).
I couldn’t help feel that this festival was a little more “adult”….
…especially with a beer garden…
…higher-end semi-local ice cream…
…and one local restaurant…
…after another.
I really liked the feel of Galena and decided to hang around a bit…
.…chatting a bit with the Columbus Blues Alliance….
…stopping here for a quick pulled pork sandwich…
…and enjoying its sinful deliciousness…
…which made me feel better than alright, especially with the great tunes (Hurricane Jerry and Stormfront).
