This post documents my experience on June 11, 2011.
Years ago, I went with my family to the village of Whitehouse (near Toledo) for a great prime rib dinner at the Whitehouse Inn. It was at night when we arrived, so my memory of the town itself was only a blur. But I did remember all that wonderful food I ate in Whitehouse and I’ve connected those tasty memories with the village ever since.
So, many years later, when I heard that Whitehouse (village of good food) had a Cherry Festival (opportunity to eat good food!)…
…I knew I had to attend!
Once I found the festival, I saw that the landscape was pretty basic…
…with a vendor-filled street…

…selling your run-of-the-mill Tupperware and tombstones.
For the more active festival-goers, I found…
…rides and games…
…a car show…
…an art show…
…and even a log cabin to explore.
But I, myself, came for the food…
…just not the carnival-esque grub…

…typical festival food…
…or even famous chicken dinners.
No – I was much more interested….
…in the cherries.
But here is where I found the festival disappointing.
Except for the cherry sundaes and slushes sold here…

…there was only the option of regular or crumb cherry pie.
Where were the cobblers, the muffins and other baked good? How about the markets selling cherries by the pint?.
I eventually sucked it up and bought myself a slice….
…wishing it wasn’t filled with so much gel.
