Willett, Maker’s Mark, Hot Brown and Bardstown
On our final day in Kentucky, we started off at the Willett Distillery in Bardstown…
…where we not only got to see the famous copper pot still…
…and bubbly mash…
…but we also got to see some of Willett’s four legged residents…
…as well as Chef Sean Brock‘s aging ham in the rickhouse.
Next, we headed to Maker’s Mark in Loretto…
…where we toured the beautiful grounds…
…admired the colors and architecture…
…and then relaxed on the patio with a Maker’s and Ale-8-One Slushie…
…and a delicious Hot Brown lunch prepared by Star Hill Provisions and Chef Newman Miller.
The rest of our day was spent back in Bardstown, where we read all the historical markers…
…took advantage of the photo ops (Jailer’s Inn)…
…and even attempted to open a mysterious coded door…
…which led us down a hallway…
…to a lounge area…
…and speakeasy bar (The Blind Pig)…
…where we obviously got a drink.
Our drinks then continued at the Old Talbott Tavern, where snacks and bourbon brought on discussion of the tavern’s history…

…including its connection to Jesse James.
So, before we headed out for an evening with my sister-in law and her friends, we went upstairs to see the Jesse James Room for ourselves…
…and it didn’t take long…
…before we found the famous the bullet holes he left behind.
