Keeping the Tradition Pow Wow – Dayton, Ohio – My Experience

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This post documents my experience on June 24, 2017, but I also reviewed a festival at SunWatch where I explain more about the history of the park.

You can read that review at https://ohiofestivals.net/sunwatch-native-flute-festival-dayton/

Here at Sunwatch

…the sun brightened the colors of the archaeological park…

…as well as the Native American dress…

…used in various dances at the Keeping the Tradition Pow Wow.

Put on by the Miami Valley Council for Native Americans

…the festival offered a children’s activity area…

…and a vendor area…

…where festival goers could shop for jewelry…

…flutes…

…and other Native American inspired accessories.

But eventually, everyone either came back to the dancing…

…which was rather mesmerizing to watch…

…or to the food offerings of bison, corn…

…and fry bread.

As you can see by the line, the fry bread booth may be the second reason people came to the festival…

…especially since you could upgrade your fry bread to an Indian taco for a few bucks more…

…giving dancers just what they needed to keep on going.
