This post documents my experience on August 16, 2025.

D-Day Conneaut magically turned Conneaut Township Park into France…

…German occupied France, rather…

…with various camps spread around the grounds, including the French Resistance Camp…

…and the enormous Allied Camp…

…which festival visitors were invited to not only explore…

…but to also converse with soldiers…

…admire vintage vehicles…

…enjoy social interactions…

…maybe pause for prayer…

…and learn from history through various organizations and groups present.

There was also a section called the Allied Homefront that showed some helpful efforts back home, which included sewing…

…planting a garden at home, gathering milkweed for life preservers…

…and entertaining the masses through women’s baseball.

An area of vendors offered an assortment of goods related to the festival theme…

…from dog tags and WWII military helmets…

…to period clothing for both soldiers and civilians.

Festival goers shopped among patches and accessories…

…gas masks and tools…

…T shirts, war movies…

…and period signs.

A few feet away, there was large food area…

…selling everything from hamburgers and hot dogs…

…jambalaya and pizza…

…a nice assortment of German food…

…ribeye steak sandwiches galore…

…and plenty of lemonade.

But the main attraction occurred just down the hill…

…as tanks sat in preparation for battle…

…(cheerfully sat in preparation, I should say)…

…and thousands of visitors waited for the invasion.

Once German solders headed to their post…

…the invasion began…

…with the tank joining the battle…

…and even a bomber overhead…

…and it was hard to know where to look as there was plenty of action throughout the beach…

…but I eventually found a small section I could focus on that led to the end of the battle…

…and the surrender of German soldiers…

…who were later taken across the festival grounds once the invasion had ended.
