Claire’s Day – Maumee and Toledo, Ohio

Claire’s Day is a festival that honors Claire Lynsey Rubini by promoting the things she loved before passing away in 2000. Among these things include reading, story telling and craft making.

This post documents my experience at the Maumee location on May 17, 2014.

Claire’s Day is a festival that honors Claire Lynsey Rubini, an area girl who passed away at the age of 10 years old from a heart condition in 2000.

Taking place at the Maumee branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library…

…thousands of children come each year to enjoy Claire’s favorite things, including reading…

…story telling (Nancy Shaw/Dandi Daley Mackall)…

…craft making…

…(I’ll assume) eating…

…and fun (YMCA/JCC Greater Toledo).

Most of these activities were held in tents set up on the grounds…

…including this one where awards for reading excellence were given to local school children who have shown reading improvement.

Meanwhile, inside the library…

…children were able to purchase various books written by regional authors…

…who were available to sign books, chat with fans or pose for photos.

Obviously, the Toledo Zoo made some quick fans as well.
