Getting to the Festival

The Bob Evans Farm Festival takes place right on the farm in Rio Grande along State Route 588.

It is a very popular festival, bringing in many visitors, so traffic can get heavy, especially when getting off of US-35.

Fortunately, police help maintain the flow of traffic from the exit ramp to the farm, so getting there is pretty smooth. Once at the farm, volunteers continue to guide cars and buses to either parking spots or drop-off points.

For those parking, the way to enter and exit the festival grounds is through a tunnel that crosses under State Route 588 as pedestrians are not permitted to cross the state route above. Volunteers on either side of the tunnel direct foot traffic, bringing lines of festival goers through…

…exiting the tunnel into a mum-filled tent…

…and out onto the main festival grounds.

A map is posted around the grounds to help people navigate the festival.
It’s also included in the brochure distributed at the entrance.

Food Vendors

While you could walk outside the festival grounds and go to the original restaurant…

…the festival has a huge Bob Evans food tent with multiple lines…

…making it relatively easy to nab yourself a farm boy with cheese.

But there were more food vendors throughout, offering roasted corn and steak tips…

…wraps sandwiches and specialty fries…

…mini donuts…

…apple dumplings…

…and foods you could eat and bring home in bulk, like trail bologna and cheese…

…large containers of bean soup cooked on the grounds…

…apple butter, sorghum…

…and various apple products…

…like a refreshing cider slush.

Vendors

Vendors were primarily found in heart of the festival grounds…

…among a series of tents…

…and their offerings ranged from Appalachian condiments and gourmet dips…

…to hand-crafted baskets and wood products…

…and visitors could shop among local cheeses, craft cocktail mixes…

…children’s books and plushies…

…jewelry, ornaments…

…handcrafted gourds, country decor…

…heirloom seeds…

…weaved rugs and products…

…and beautiful blown glass.

Attractions and Entertainment

No matter where you wandered off to, there was something to see or do.

There were chainsaw carving demonstrations…

…train set displays…

…a cabin village to explore…

…which you can read a little about here…

…an entire area for children…

…with games…

…a hay maze…

…rides…

…corn…

…and survival of the fittest…

…with a neighboring main ride area…

…that offered a few decent options.

There were possibilities to pet some longhorns…

…chat with a horse…

…throw an axe…

…have someone draw you caricature or paint your face…

…or just enjoy any of the various shows available…

…whether it involve professional log rolling…

…synchronized tap dancing…

…harmonized Gospel music…

…or some good ole rock and roll.
