This post documents my experience on May 18, 2013.
It’s not often that I find a festival with a strong Amish influence, even when located in Amish-populated areas.
So when I heard that the town of Plain City (outside of Columbus) was having a Heritage Days festival…
…next to a Der Dutchman restaurant…
…I not only drove there to check it out…
…I brought the kid with me (he’s waving “hi”).
The moment we stepped onto the festival grounds, I could tell that he felt welcomed…

…as there were children’s activity areas…
…balloon animals to wear on your head or carry…

…real animals to look at…
…more real animals to ride…

…and various dessert options.
I, myself, didn’t need as much to feel welcomed…
…being that a rather cheerful welcoming booth sufficed (Uptown Plain City Organization).
As we toured the festival grounds, the Amish influence was definitely felt…
…thanks to vendors selling items that included brooms, rugs…
…and Eli’s handmade wooden toys (found at the nearby Corner Cupboard).
And although my son didn’t get any toys at the festival (I know I’m a bad father), he was entertained by the various activities…
…including antique farm equipment demonstrations…
…vegetable and fruit carving…
…(which was rather impressive)…
…music entertainment (Clear Run)…
…a vintage baseball game (the Ohio Village Muffins)…
…and even some open fire corn pancake frying…
…where samples were plated with a variety of syrupy toppings…
…and Dad indulged in a plate all his own (delicious even when plain!).
But for those who wanted a little more than corn pancakes…
…there was a Der Dutchman food booth with sandwiches and desserts (whoopie pies!)…
…as well as another Der Dutchman table with plenty of baked goods, pasta…
…and even puppy chow…
…which I’m sure particular festival guests appreciated more than others.
