This post documents my experience on July 3, 2011.
Even though it’s practically in my back yard, I had never made it to Lorain’s Port Fest. Maybe I overlooked it since it goes on shortly after the city’s big International Festival.
Maybe I had just been busy.
But this year, coinciding with the 4th of July weekend and consequently being reduced to one big day, I decided to make sure…
…that I headed down to the picturesque Black River Landing.
Julia and I arrived early on and things were fairly calm with a tranquil crowd of festival goers meandering about.
The stage was being setup for some great music…
…river and lighthouse tours were underway…
…and people were enjoying themselves from the jump houses…
…to the beer/food tent.
.
Those familiar with the International Festival noticed a similar setup here…

…along with familiar ethnic food…
…and merchandise.
But Port Fest definitely was different, especially with the presence of booths that…
…educated festival goers about biological surveys…
…taught how the county was dealing with waste to better the environment…
…and raised awareness of their philanthropic activities through games…
…like the rather generous Head Start.
Thanks!
In fact, Port Fest was very game friendly…

…with toilet tossing, Plinko plinking…
…and even some cow-milking fun.
There was even a vendor called Karma Boomerangs…
…who sold just that.
With all the open area at the Black River Landing…
.…more games unfolded.
