14.) Glier’s Goettafest Review – Newport, Kentucky – July 27, 2019

It was a beautiful day along the Ohio River…

…perfect for Glier’s Goettafest.

For those not from the Cincinnati area, goetta (gheh-tah) is a German breakfast sausage…

…made of pork, beef, oats, onions and spices.

The festival was helpful in introducing visitors to goetta through information panels…

..and a history booth…

…so that everyone could better understand and appreciate it…

…before getting in line to try it for themselves.

Food vendors proudly advertised their goetta dishes…

…showcasing plated samples…

…and plenty of images to entice the crowds.

And they actually needed to do this…

…as the goetta options were endless…

…with goetta slammers (BeckHart)…

…goetta mu shu tacos (Yat Ka Mein)…

…cheesy goetta ribbon chips…

…southwest goetta sliders…

…deep fried goetta balls…

…grilled goetta donut sandwiches…

…and even goetta cannoli.

But there was more to do than just eat.

Two entertainment stages allowed guests to take a well-deserved eating break…

…and enjoy some classic rock and roll (Model Behavior).

Other attractions included games…

…a dunk tank…

…a caricature artist…

…and a relaxing cooling station to escape the heat.

For many adults, the Goetta Saloon also acted as a cooling station…

…as did the many booths offering daiquiris, margaritas…

…and beer…

…especially with this souvenir festival mug option.

Kids, meanwhile, tended to ignore the heat as they enjoyed an inflatable Fun Zone down on the river…

…a tent with all sorts of games…

…and activities that involved jumping…

…rolling…

…and holding on for dear life.

And, when they couldn’t eat any more or it was simply time to go…

…festival goers had the option of taking home a Goettafest shirt, Mr. Goetta plushie…

…or a tube or two of goetta from the world’s only goetta vending machine.
