If you live in Columbus, you most likely have heard of the Doo Dah Parade.

Begun in 1983, the parade has been attracting many tens of thousands each year…

…with its offerings of Marching Castros…

…fantastic puppets…

…vegans…

…belly dancers…

…art cars…

…and plenty of humor.

The Doo Dah is satirical (photo via @RockNShnocks)…

…it’s zany…

…it’s fun…

…and anyone can be a part of it.

You only need to get yourself in the lineup after 12.

But why am I writing about a parade when there’s a festival…

…with beer…

…(including a specialty brew)…

…food vendors…

…and musical entertainment?

Because most people were actually here for the parade.

In fact, even though the festival aspect of this event allows me to write about it on a festival website…

…I came to Doo Dah to see the parade from within this golf cart…

…driven and narrated by Doug Ritchey, Emperor of the Short North.

After listening to the whimsical version of the Star Spangled Banner…

…we took off along the parade route…

…waving back to the crowd of fans…

…admiring the parade and all its splendor…

…and even considering some post-parade party options held at local businesses.

A big thank you to Doug Ritchey, Deb Roberts and all the Doo Dah Volunteers who made my visit a great one!

Happy Doo Dah!
