Hello, Festival Fans!

There are nearly 50 festivals in Ohio this weekend (not including fairs and shows)!

Tons of Oktoberfests, pumpkin festivals, apple and fall festival this weekend.  And I really love this fall weather to go along with it.

If you only want fall and holiday festivals and events, be sure to check out my Ohio Fall into the Holidays show and festival listing.

I’ve also created a new archive page by city, which you can check out HERE.

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Festival Picks

September 29 – October 2, 2016

Festivals are listed chronologically.

Ohio Swiss Festival - Sugarcreek

1.) Ohio Swiss Festival – Sugarcreek – September 30-October 1 – FREE

Big wheel races, antique cars, Swiss cheese judging and eating competitions, food, games, Polka, rides and more!  Get some apple fritters at the booth held by the First Mennonite Church – as they are very popular!  You can check out my 2010 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/82-ohio-swiss-festival-sugarcreek-october-2-2010/

2.) John R. Simon’s Sorghum Festival – West Portsmouth – September 30 – October 2 – FREE

Head to Scioto County for Appalachian music, local artists and artisans, and a great-sounding 19th century themed festival where sorghum is king.  The link says October 6-8, but the voice recording (if you call) says September 30-October 1.  This one looks really interesting to me and I’ve heard good things from the locals.

Cedar Valley Settlers Celebration and Music Festival – North Olmsted

3.) Hands on Heritage (formerly Cedar Valley Settlers Celebration and Music Festival) – North Olmsted – FREE

Although the name has changed this year, it’s pretty much set up the same with music entertainment, food vendors and and activities for kids to take part in (candle making, apple crushing, etc.).  Check out my 2013 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/cedar-valley-settlers-north-olmsted/

old west festival mount orab

4.) Old West Festival – Mt. Orab/Williamsburg – October 1-2 – Varied admission prices

Plenty of performances, attractions and fun at the Old West Festival.  This particular weekend, the theme is Romance, so you can either buy your love a rose or put her in jail.  They also have rattlesnake chili at this festival (mixed with some chorizo), which is something I think is cool.  Check out my 2011 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/66-old-west-festival-williamsburg-october-8-2011/

Prairie Peddler Butler

5.) Prairie Peddler Festival – Butler – October 1-2 – $7 Admission ($3 for ages 6-12/ Under 6 Free)

Go into the woods for some old-fashioned vendors, delicious food (turkey legs, bison burgers, apple fritters, caramel apples), entertainment and more.  Seriously – get the apple fritters if they have crates of apples and are smashing them to put them in the fritters.  Then send me some.  You can read my 2009 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/26-the-prairie-peddler-festival-butler-ohio-october-10-2009/

6.) Harvest Festival – Stow – October 1-2 – FREE

This festival is put on by the Stow Historical Society at Silver Springs Park.  There will be craft vendors, entertainment, food, and historic house tours.  There will also be plenty of apple butter.

7.) Spring Valley Potato Festival – October 1-2 – $3 parking

Potato foods include potato soup, baked potatoes, potato cookies and potato candy.  Plus there will be all your craft vendors, food vendors and entertainment galore.

Huntsburg Pumpkin Festival

8.) Huntsburg Pumpkin Festival  – October 1-2 – FREE

A lot of tasty pumpkin products at this festival (pumpkin butter, pie, whoopie pies) with fall crafts, games and giant produce.  There are also a fair amount of competitions, shows and entertainment.  Read my 2011 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/58-huntsburg-pumpkin-festival-october-1-2011/

Harvest Happenings - Huron

9.) Harvest Happenings – Huron – October 1-2 – FREE

Animals, food trucks, tractors, crafts, activities and more at this fall festival.  Really a nice location and plenty of playgrounds in the area for the kids.  A nice time.  Read my 2013 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/harvest-happenings-huron/

Woollybear Festival – Vermilion

10.) Woollybear Festival – Vermilion – October 2 – FREE

Although Dick Goddard might not make it to the festival this year after his recent injury, you are still sure to see many other Cleveland Fox8 personalities.  This is a huge festival for both Vermilion and Ohio, as the one day event brings in 100k people (it’s actually the biggest one day festival in Ohio).  Not only will you have plenty of food and craft options, but you will eventually learn the winter forecast, based on the stripes of the woollybear.  Read my 2014 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/woollybear-festival-revisited/
