Hello, Festival Fans!

There are 60 festivals in Ohio this weekend (not including fairs and shows)!

I am actually going to be a guest judge at the National Hamburger Festival in Akron on Saturday, so feel free to say hi.  I also hope to stop at some nearby fests soon after, so maybe you can catch me at one of those as well.

Also, how my site is working on your phone?  Are you experiencing any problems?  Please let me know.

Have a great weekend and have a funnel cake for me!

Weekend Festival Picks

August 11-14, 2016

National Hamburger Festival – Akron

1.) National Hamburger Festival – Akron – August 13-14 – $5 Admision (Children 8 and under free)

Whether or not Akron’s Menches family invented the hamburger, this festival celebrates this popular sandwich with style.  Not only are there 20 hamburger vendors, burger cook-offs, eating championships and a ketchup-filled bowl for Bobbing for Burgers – there’s also plenty of entertainment, a kids’ area, and burger-related vendors.  A beer fest is new this year.  Check out my 2012 Review at

2.) Runway Fest – Miamisburg – August 12 – Free Admission

This festival takes place at the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport, offering aircraft displays, inflatables, music, food and fireworks.  Visitors can bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Feast of the Assumption – Cleveland

3.) Feast of the Assumption – Cleveland – August 12-15 – Free Admission

This is two festivals in one (the parish festival behind the church and the Little Italy neighborhood festival), both celebrating the Virgin Mary’s ascension into Heaven through gambling, rides, and tons of food.  Plan accordingly when attending this festival as space is limited and crowds are definite.  Locals may want to take advantage of the RTA.  Please read my 2015 Review at

4.) Maumee Summer Fair – August 12-13 – Free Admission

The festival website makes the Summer Fair sound like three main events (Taste of Maumee, Parking Lot Party, Maumee Palooza) all joined together and sprinkled with even more smaller events (Craft and Commercial Fair, a contest to melt a giant block of ice, car show, etc.).  All you really need to know is that this is one festival with a lot to do.  As long as there’s music and food, I’m pretty happy.

Columbus Food Truck Fest

5.) Columbus Food Truck Festival – August 12-13  – Free Admission

Over 65 food trucks come together in this mega food truck celebration, complete with plenty of non-food vendors, 2 stages of music and a family fun kids zone.  If there’s a food truck or two you’ve been dying to die, this is the place to do it.  Read more via my 2015 Review at

North Ridgeville Corn Festival

6.) North Ridgeville Corn Festival – August 12-14 – Free Admission

Here you can find your corn festival staples like roasted corn, kettle corn and corn dogs, but North Ridgeville offers even more.  This is a bigger festival with plenty of rides and games, food vendors, non-food vendors, car show and more.  An interesting addition to this year’s fest is a Fishing Derby where only corn can be used as bait (great idea!).  They also have 3 walking mascots you may see on the grounds: a partially husked ear of corn, a popped corn kernel and a candy corn.  Read my 2010 Review at

Germanfest Picnic - Dayton

7.) Dayton Liederkranz Germanfest Picnic – August 12-14 – $2 On-Site Parking

Come to Carillon Park for German food (look for the main tent with the longer line), merchandise, music and beer.  There are also kids games and rides, genealogy and a fashion show.  Read my 2015 Review at

8.) Shaker Woods Festival – Columbiana – August 13-14 (and the next two weekends) – $8 admission for ages 13 and older

This is one of those old-time craft festivals where you walk in the foods and see craftspeople in historic clothing carving wood while selling their goods.  There are over 200 craftspeople at this festival and there will be plenty of opportunities to take a break from shopping in order to listen to some great music or get a bite to eat.

9.) Festival Latino – Columbus – August 13-14 – Free Admision

Over 203,000 festival goers attended last year so be prepared for a decently sized festival with 25+ food vendors, 20+ gift and souvenir vendors, music entertainment, visual artists, a children’s area and more.  Have a pastelillo (Puerto Rican fried meat pie) for me.

valley city frog jump

10.) Valley City Frog Jump – August 14 – Free Admission

This is a fun family festival where you can either compete your own frog (check rules on frog size) or rent one from the festival.  But even if you don’t compete, it’s fun to watch the frog jumping as well as take part in the kids’ games and activities, a frog race, entertainment at the pavilion and available refreshments and food.  You can read my 2010 Review at
