On all the walking trails I’ve been on, it’s rare to see someone eating a gyro, let alone a funnel cake.

Fortunately, at the St. John Medical Center Festival of the Arts, you can do both, secure that staff will immediately check you in (with proof of insurance) if things get to be a little too much.

Set along a half-mile trail, about 250 artist booths line each side, passing through…

…shaded areas…

…watery areas…

…and crowded areas.

Like many art festivals, there are booths with jewelry, home items, paintings, photos, wooden toys, leather, ceramics, metal work, fiber, pottery and many other mediums. Of the most interesting (to me) during my stroll were…

…glass art…

…green (recycled) accessories…

…and a funky Land of the Lost frog.

There was also enough heart-clogging food to make your visit worthwhile.

Unfortunately, we had a birthday party to attend, so there was no time for a meal. On this particularly hot day, we took advantage of a recently acquainted vendor…

After being awestruck by their frosted malt at the Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival, Julia and I split an order of a frosted malt in a cup and went on our way.

We were going to have cake, after all.
